Dear Whiskey Bottle,
You sit lurking in the darkness,
but I see you.
You can come in a variety of choices and colors,
a round bottle, a square bottle, a large or small bottle.
You are made up of three main ingredients:
water, cereal grain, and yeast.
You are loved by many,
but I know who you truly are.
You look innocent until you
are opened and poured into a clear glass.
You remind me of an ugly brown lake.
You are murky with toxic chemicals.
You are potent in smell,
your chemicals burn my nose hairs and make it drip like a leaky faucet,
You turn my stomach into a queasy knot of sickness
when you are open.
You make my eyes water,
and my throat burns when I am exposed to your toxic smells.
You are extremely addicting,
and your addiction is severe.
You change the way he thinks,
the way he behaves, and the way he loves me
when you are open,
You change the way he speaks,
the way he listens, and
the way he engages in meaningful conversations,
You are his favorite drink after a hard day at work
and on the weekends.
You are my least favorite thing to see or smell
at the end of the day or at anytime.
You may be strong,
But I am stronger.
