Have you heard that Lee Bryce song,

What did he do?

A whisper in the silence, a question soaked in pain—

Because you don’t sound like you anymore—

What happened?

Unknowing, fate’s cruel hand drew us close,

A blind date shadowed in shadows,

With the son of a cherished family friend—

What happened?

Enamored gestures, cloaked in illusion—

Love bombing, a masquerade of affection,

What happened?

He tore through walls, punching holes in my sanctuary—

Shattered the computer, broken phones,

My head crashing through the wall—

A storm of rage and fury unleashed—

What happened?

I am stretched across the fragile fibers of my spirit,

Tears flowing like rivers unbound—

Trying to hold the shards of myself,

But it’s never enough—

What happened?

His mother’s voice, weighty with judgment,

Speaks of at least two ways—

Two cracks in the mirror of my soul—

What happened?

And in the wreckage, I lost myself—

A soul trying to find its way through ash and thunder,

A flame flickering in the darkness, seeking dawn’s first light.

Strangers who once knew my fire ask,

How did that happen to you—

Of all the stars in the sky?

I cannot walk freely to my girls’ night—

He won’t let me go—

I cannot escape the invisible chains—

Bound by suspicion and doubt,

What happened?

He punched through walls, shattered my peace,

My head crashing through the wall—

A life torn asunder in the wake of his rage—

Minutes measured in the bathroom’s cold silence,

Hours dictated by departure and return—

A cycle of suspicion, a spiral of despair—

A prayer unanswered, a life unspoken—

What happened?
