Getting Started "Write" Away

Using Picture Books and Authors to Establish Writing Are you trying to find ways for children to apply the writing process? This workshop will help integrate the use of picture books and authors will help establish writing routines while developing and engaging in authentic writing experiences.

Writing in the Early Childhood Classroom with the Six Traits

This session will use mentor texts and author studies to show participants  how to introduce young readers to the 6 traits of writing. Participants will learn strategies to lay a strong literacy foundation in early childhood classrooms.

"I Wanna Talk About Me" Writing Ideas to Engage and Build Confidence

Participants will learn about various "autobiographical" focused writing lessons/activities that are perfect for early school year writing and have potential for extensions throughout the school year.

"We are Family" Ideas for Building Community through Writing

Participants will learn how to utilize letters, journals, and class pen pals to highlight that writing is a very social activity and one of our most primary means of communication. It can foster class community while growing strong writers.

6 Traits of Writing Part 1 "Picture It"

Participants will dig into the 6 Traits of Writing: Ideas, Organization, and Word Choice to engage writing in the classroom.   Participants will leave with hands-on activities to use in the classroom. 

6 Traits of Writing Part 2 "The Switcharoo"

Participants will learn how to use the 6 Traits of Writing: Voice, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions to enhance creativity in student writing.   Participants will explore engaging activities to help all types of learners develop stronger writing skills.
