OWP’s AI Acceptable Use Guidelines

For the 2025 Write to Win Contest, the Oklahoma Writing Project will use the AI Acceptable Use Guidelines created by Karen Leonard at the Oklahoma State Department of Education that were adapted from the work of Perkins, et al., 2024. Students may use AI at a 0, 1, or 2 on the scale.

Entries that use AI at a 3 or a 4 WILL NOT be accepted.

Use at a 1 or a 2 must be disclosed using the AI disclosure template below.

If you have questions about acceptable use or how to include the disclosure, please email okwritingproject@gmail.com or owpcodirector@yahoo.com.

Before using any AI in your classroom, please ensure you have read the Terms of Use for age restrictions, privacy concerns, data training, etc.. Most, if not all, have age restrictions, along with requiring parental consent.

For instance, ChatGPT states, "ChatGPT is not meant for children under 13, and we require that children ages 13 to 18 obtain parental consent before using ChatGPT. . . for children under 13, the actual interaction with ChatGPT must be conducted by an adult" (OpenAI, 2023).
